The test cricket and NRL football on Nine (Gem and Nine’s main channel) did the number for Nine last night in metro and regional markets. And that was that Seven’s Restaurant Revolution — 457,000 national viewers, beaten by Lewis on 7TWO — 579,000 national viewers. They went head to head last night and the import won because it was interesting, entertaining and well-acted with a decent story line: a few tips there about what viewers really want.
Ten’s The Bachelor with 1.104 million national viewers was the second most watched non-news program last night after Seven’s stalwart Home and Away with 1.121 million people. The first session of the Test cricket from The Oval had 891,000 viewers on Gem across the country, down sharply from the first session of the first day of the fourth test when Australia was skittled for 60. Last night the score was 3 for 287, a bit of an improvement. Shane Warne bagged the non-selection of the young fast bowler, Pat Cummins in the Australian side and got no disagreement from me and a lot of other cricket fans. The NRL game on Nine and Go had 442,000 national viewers. So Lewis beat it as well. The Honourable Woman on the ABC at 8.30 with 660,000 national viewers beat both Lewis and the NRL. A message in that as well for TV managements.
Seven had another small in the mornings with Sunrise, 313,000 beating Today on 295,000 metro viewers.

Losers: The Ashes test and the NRL on Nine’s main channel destabilised the night.
