Seven won overall, Ten and Nine shared the demos, driven by The Meat Market (AKA The Bachelor), while Nine did well with The Block and the latest series of Celebrity Apprentice (which hardly appealed to anyone aged over 29, it seems). Seven’s X Factor sank under a million metro viewers a worrying move-the 934,000 metro viewers was solid, but well down on the 1.5 million start and the previous night. But due to strong support from regional viewers (It was number one there with 563,000 viewers, compared to seventh in the metros), the national audience was a chart topping 1.497 million people. The Bachelor suffered from weaker support from the regions — just 326,000 people, but still finished third nationally with 1.377 million. The Block managed 1.095 million national viewers, while Celebrity Apprentice had 768,000, which is not enough (It had 566,000 metro viewers, which for Nine, is nowhere near enough).
In the early evening the 5.30 part of Seven’s The Chaser Australia beat Nine’s Hot Seat easily in the metros – 613,000 to 520,000 and nationally, the 5.30 Chase had 936,000 viewers to 751,000 for Hot Seat. What Seven will want to see over the next two weeks is The Chaser triggering a narrowing of the gap between Nine News and Seven’s News in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
In the mornings, the travel and travails of Sunrise easily accounted for Today — by almost 100,000 metro viewers, while News Breakfast had another strong morning yesterday with 179,000 metro viewers (the 254,000 from Tuesday morning turned out to be the program’s highest ever audience).

Losers: Anyone over 19 who watched The Bachelor (Grump). Celebrity Apprentice. Fancy it being a young demo play so soon in its current season. For other viewers, dull and we have heard and seen it before and besides, Donald Trump is trying hard to be fired by the American people and that’s a bigger trainwreck.Metro news and current affairs:
