Seven won the night in the metros (Ten did well in the demos with the start of The Bachelorette), but in the regionals Seven won everything with another very big margin. The X Factor topped national most watched lists with 1.543 million. Nine News was tops in the metros. Ten claimed The Bachelorette was Number 1 in under 55s and Number 1 in 25 to 54s in the metros, but not nationally. Its blurb said: “Over 870,000 metro viewers” —  it was actually 875,000. But no mention of the weak 260,000 regional viewers. X Factor had 590,000 regional viewers.

Seven News’ brief pick up faded last night as the gap between the 5.30 bit of The Chase Australia and Hot Seat narrowed to  just 10,000 in favour of The Chase. So Nine News had a clear win in the metros and nationally.

Nine’s The Block and Celebrity Apprentice had weak nights — The X Factor on Seven and The Bachelorette debut on Ten had more viewers, as did 7.30, Gruen and Utopia on the ABC. Celebrity Apprentice and The Bachelorette are just rips of existing formats, no great stakes as TV programs. The Block and X Factor are now fairly mature versions of successful offshore formats (The Bachelor is an offshore format as well).

In the morning Today with 320,000 metro viewers, beat Sunrise with 295,000. Nationally Sunrise beat Today. That’s the first win for Today in the metros for some weeks. Perhaps Sunrise needs to get back on the plane?
