A better night for Seven with a reasonable win the metros and a much larger victory in the regionals, thanks to 800 Words and The X Factor (weakish though in the metros), and a better outing for the 6-to-7pm News hour because The Chase Australia at 5.30pm easily beat Hot Seat in the metros especially (616,000 to 512,000) and that reduced Nine’s winning margins in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and allowed Seven to benefit from its usual big margins in Adelaide and Perth. Nine did well in the demos, along with Seven.

800 Words topped metro (1.082 million) and regional viewing (662,000) and 1.745 million nationally with viewers. The X Factor’s metro performance with 982,000 viewers was pushed higher by the 568,000 viewers in the regions for a national figure of 1.550 million and Number 2 across the country (against 6th in the metros). Home and Away had 1.282 million viewers — 798,000 metro and 488,000 regional viewers who again provided the program with strong support.

The Block was solid with 949,000 metro viewers and 1.326 million nationally (after 377,000 regionally). The Block moved from ninth in the metros to fourth nationally. The fresh Big Bang episode on Nine was third nationally with 1.363 million viewers.

At Breakfast, Sunrise with 308,000 metro viewers just snuck home in front of Today with 299,000. Sunrise was a bigger winner nationally.
