The final report from Stephen McDonell in last night’s Our Man In China episode of Foreign Correspondent was a top 10 program nationally with 892,000 viewers. It deserved more. Back Roads at 8pm (and the lead into Foreign Correspondent) averaged 1.184 million nationally and was fourth nationally, and deserved that and more.

Seven News won the metros and was the most watched program last night because of a big winning margin in Perth. It also won Adelaide and Melbourne  by 1,000 viewers. The top seven programs last night in metro markets were news and current affairs programs, and eight of the top 10 were likewise. It wasn’t the most attractive night for those who wanted something a bit more mindless and entertaining.  Seven won the metros and the regionals, the ABC was third and Ten was fourth.

A sign of how mindless last night was: an episode of The Big Bang Theory on Seven’s main channel was 10th nationally with 885,000 viewers. No, technically that is a repeat because it has been on Nine’s main channel and Gem or ONE in the past. In other words, its a well-travelled, well viewed episode, and it still managed to grab close to 900,000 people across the country last night.
