Back to what has been “normal” in the 2016 ratings battle so far. MKR topped the night with 1.987 million national and 1.273 million metro viewers last night. Four Corners’s report on the Panama Papers and their Australian links did very well. Four Corners had a solid 1.276 million viewers and a seventh spot nationally and 902,000 viewers and fourth spot in the metros (second after MKR from 7.30pm onwards). That is a sure sign of strong viewer interest. 7.30 and the ABC News also had solid audience figures last night.

Married at First Sight lost 32% of its first episode audience in the metros from last year: 771,000 against 1.134 million. Sunday Night’s success was a fleeting guide. Married is worse than Seven Year Switch on Nine. Nationally Married At First Sight ended up tenth overall with 1.108 million viewers, which is short of the metro figure for the first program last year. That’s how far it has slipped as far as viewers are concerned. Reno Rumble (remember that?) Well, it managed 650,000 national viewers at the 8.30pm start and 424,000 in the metros, which is better than it did last week at 7.30pm. Ah, the wonders of the TV viewing audience and their preferences.

The five top regional programs last night were: MKR with 624,000; Home and Away with 503,000; Downton Abbey on 461,000; ABC News on 426,000 and Nine News on 415,000.

Nine’s increasingly weak ratings performance had an inevitable impact this morning with an earnings downgrade issued to the market.

In the morning Today, 331,000 won breakfast in the metros, from Sunrise which crept closer to 317,000. Sunrise won nationally. Ten’s Studio 10 also continues to creep higher with 77,000 yesterday.
