Another Wednesday, another prime time dominated by the ABC. It’s now usual for the mid-week 7pm to 9pm slot to be won by the ABC.

The 7pm news averaged 891,000 nationally (just behind A Current Affair with 894,000), 7.30, 828,000, Hard Quiz, 855,000, Gruen, 810,000. Hard Quiz and Gruen were again the dominant non-news programs last night.

The ABC ran second in the main channels behind Seven and in front of Nine.

The combined share of the five networks’ non-main channels was 38.8%. The Big Bash League game faded — averaged 569,000 for the four hours from 7pm and helped Seven won the main channels, but not total people which saw Nine a narrow winner. 

The BBL game failed to make the national top 10 on the night (a further 142,000 watched the game on Foxtel). 

In breakfast Sunrise, 447,000 national and 264,000 metro viewers; Today, 287,000 national and 193,000 metro viewers; ABC News Breakfast, 271,000 national and 179,000 metro viewers.

In regional markets: Seven News, 485,000; Seven News 6.30, 469,000; 7pm ABC News, 274,000; The Chase Australia 5.30pm, 272,000; A Current Affair, 263,000.
