The Winners: Seven News was the most watched program with 1.507 million people, followed by Today Tonight with 1.343 million and Spicks and Specks on the ABC at 8.30pm with 1.321 million in 3rd. Nine’s fresh Two And A Half Men at 7.30 pm was 4th with 1.309 million (and especially strong in Melbourne, as was the 7pm repeat). The World’s Strictest Parents on Seven at 7.30pm averaged 1.302 million and Home and Away won the 7pm slot with 1.213 million people. The 7pm repeat of Two and a Half Men was 7th for Nine with 1.168 million people and Seven’s repeat of Criminal Minds at 8.30pm averaged 1.142 million. 9th was Nine’s RPA at 8.30pm with 1.082 million, the 7pm ABC News was next with 1.064 million, ahead of Nine News with 1.062 million. The semi-final of Australian Idol on Ten at 7.30pm was 12th with 1.049 million people. A Current Affair was 13th with 987,000. The Librarians averaged 877,000 at 9pm on the ABC.

The Losers: Australia’s Perfect Couple at 8pm on Nine. Adelaide didn’t take it last night, so its poor figures fell further, to 610,000. My Name Is Earl at 9.30pm on Seven at 9.30 pm: 749,000, just in front of The United States of Tara on the ABC at 9.30pm with 731,000. Seven thinks so much of My Name Is Earl that it’s back in the schedule at 9.30pm tonight against the Footy Shows and Q&A and the weak Burn Notice on Ten.

News & CA: Seven News again won nationally and in every market as did Today Tonight. The 7.30 Report averaged 929,000. Lateline averaged 240,000, Lateline Business, 108,000. Ten News averaged 769,000, the late News/Sports Tonight, 328,000. Nine’s late News, 194,000. SBS News at 6.30pm, 180,000, the 9.30pm edition, 145,000. 7am Sunrise, 403,000, 7am Today, 330,000.

The Stats: Seven won 6pm to Midnight All People with 28.2% (27.3%) from Nine with 26.4% (27.9%), Ten was third with 20.6% (19.1%), the ABC with 19.9% (19.5%), and SBS with 4.9%. Seven won everywhere bar Melbourne where Nine was victorious. Seven leads the week 29.1% to 25.3% for Nine. In regional areas a win to Prime/7Qld with 28.7%, from WIN/NBN with 26.5%, the ABC with 19.4%, Southern Cross (Ten) with 19.1% and SBS with 6.3%.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Seven won, Nine was next, then Ten, but the ABC was the place to be last night with some entertainment from 8.30pm to 10pm. The big stories from last night were the poor performance of A Current Affair for the second night in a row. To get less than 1 million on a Wednesday evening is unusual, it has happened occasionally on Thursdays and more often on Friday’s for the program, but rarely midweek. Neighbours had more viewers in Sydney (263,000) than ACA did with 238,000. That’s the second night in a row that Neighbours has rated better in Sydney than ACA (and in Adelaide).

Deal or No Deal on Seven with 767,000 was clearly ahead of Eddie’s Hot Seat with 634,000, but that’s not the reason.

The other story was that the extra channels on Nine (Go), Ten (ONE), SBS TWO and ABC2 totalled an impressive 5% share last night, which is more viewers than watched the SBS main channel (4.6%).

Go was tops with 1.90%, ABC 2 was next with 1.2%, ONE had 1.2% and SBS TWO had 0.30%. That’s the highest measured share so far (measurement only started this week). Deduct these digital channel share figures from the overall figures in the stats section to get the share figures for the main channels, except Seven.

So Nine’s main channel had a share of 24.50% Ten had 19.40%, the ABC, 18.30% and SBS 4.60% between 6pm and Midnight. Seven’s share was 28.20% because its digital channel is not being measured separately at the moment. ABC2’s Scrapheap Challenge averaged 109,000 and was the most watched program on the digital channels, in front of Go’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles with 107,000.

TONIGHT: Seven’s weak point for the week with Double Take and TV Burp, plus The Amazing Race from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. But then there’s nothing else on. The AFL and NRL Footy Shows on Nine at 9.30pm, Q&A on the ABC at 9.30pm from the Melbourne Writers Festival. Ten has Rush at 8.30pm. SBS goes all foodie from 7.30pm with My Family Feast and Costa’s Garden Odyssey.
