Some Valentine’s Days can be real downers. Salman Rushdie, for example, got a fatwa requiring his execution from the Ayatollah Khomeini on this day back in 1989.
But Valentine’s Day is always happy here at Crikey. It’s our birthday. Crikey is seven years old today. (You can find what the site looked like in ancient times at the Australian National Library’s Pandora archive.)
And while the Packers haven’t had the cosiest of relationships with Crikey over these seven years – the PBL email system blocks the daily Crikey email – they’ve given us a birthday present. Sorta. Plugs, anyway.
Footage of a drunken dwarf has featured in the promos for 20 to 1. And last Wednesday, Ed Phillips had this question to ask on Temptation – watch it here: “Attacked by columnist Glenn Milne at last year’s Walkley awards was the founder of the Crikey website Stephen who?”
“Foote,” contestant Kerrie answered.
Oh well. It was the thought that counted.
When we form the basis of a question on Deal or No Deal we’ll know we’ve made it.
PS If you’re reading this and aren’t yet a subscriber, why don’t you follow this link and give us a birthday present, too. C’mon! If James and Eddie can do it, so can you.
