With the election now just weeks away, Crikey put on its thinking cap.

What if, instead of scare campaigns and personal abuse, we had an election based on real issues? You know, ones that have a real impact on all of our lives?

Bernard Keane delved into this fantasy world, where politicians debate each other over government policy and offer up a vision for the country in dire times. It won’t be like that, of course, but it’s a nice thought. And it’s what voters deserve.

We also deserve journalists who actually hold politicians to account. Leonardo Puglisi is one of those and he’s only 14 years old. He and his 6 News Australia colleague Roman Mackinnon put the press gallery to shame this week by grilling the PM over his record of lies and falsehoods. (He even quotes Crikey). Puglisi describes his experience with the PM below. We’ll no doubt be seeing more of him in years to come.

Finally, Kishor Napier-Raman has been keeping track of all the AAT appointments that the Coalition has been ramming through ahead of the election. We know it’s a tradition but come on.

Have a great weekend,
