Morrison couldn't have had a worse week.

The nature of the Coalition government has truly been laid bare this week in the apparent cover-up of the alleged rape of ex-staffer Brittany Higgins.

The government has done just about everything wrong when dealing with workplace assault. The mishandling presents yet another credibility crisis for Scott Morrison, as Bernard Keane wrote. Morrison made things worse for himself when invoking the “as a father of girls” line, suggesting once again that he is incapable of viewing women as deserving of compassion unless he is first reminded of their relationship to a man. We haven’t even begun to see the impact the scandal will have on Morrison’s ministry.

Elsewhere, attention on Morrison became diluted after Facebook banned news content on its platform in Australia, something the social media giant had been threatening for some time. We also looked at how the government has forked out massive bonuses for subpar work, Christian Porter’s affect on the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, and this week’s abolition of the Family Court.

Have a great weekend,

We’re reliant on people having the guts of Brittany Higgins to break the omerta of political staffing and reveal their abuse and pain. That’s exactly how the parties prefer it. — Bernard Keane
