Large coal and gas companies top the official list of Australia’s biggest polluters based on direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions. But Australia’s woeful performance on climate change is a bigger story altogether.

Some companies and individuals play an incredibly toxic role in the public debate around climate change in Australia, and wield an outsized political influence to undermine climate action — yet they rarely get the recognition they deserve. That’s why this week Bernard Keane, with the assistance of political cartoonist Eric Löbbecke, created a list of Australia’s biggest climate culprits along with a video that names and shames the lot of them.

Also this week we had plenty on new NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet, John Barilaro’s resignation, the bolstered calls for a federal anti-corruption watchdog, Craig Kelly and Clive Palmer’s questionable YouTube viewing numbers, and a defeat for the federal government in its pursuit of Bernard Collaery.

Enjoy!
